At the heart of our program are teams of doctors, nutritionists, social workers and income generation specialists who live and work in the Libras de Amor communities.
At the start of each intervention, the team conducts a baseline survey of the communities and establishes initial measurements of health and nutrition in the population so we can trace our progress as well as better understand the community and its needs. Indicators include access to medical care, living and sanitary conditions, basic services and the educational and economic profile of the families in the area.
Our technical teams live in the municipality they serve and travel each day to various posts and meeting places in the area. A team visits each village at least once a month, thereby guaranteeing consistent monitoring as well as promoting close relationships with families. Once established in a municipality, Libras de Amor remains there for 5-8 years while they work to close the nutritional gap.
Libras de Amor has been designed to address the principle causes of malnutrition We seek to guide families through the process of learning and adopting healthy lifestyles and habits that will permit them to prevent malnutrition in their children, thereby increasing their future productivity.
